A level gives you a set number of elements as inputs, and tells you what your output needs to be. The core gameplay loop is simple to understand. But the narrative, while well-written and capable of providing some respite between challenges, is far from the attraction here. As the story plays out, you become stuck between various factions and your creations are used for nefarious purposes. You play a young alchemist, tasked with creating elemental compounds for your employers in a time of conflict. Opus Magnum is, like many of developer Zachtronics Industries' releases, a puzzle game centered on engineering. All I know is that I saw a split-second of it in a YouTube video a few weeks ago and have been obsessed since. The solution file is found right near the puzzle folder, in Documents/My Games/Opus Magnum// (~/Library/Application Support/Opus Magnum// for Mac users). Submissions are handled through website (scroll to bottom of the event page). We plan on livestreaming the results of every week's puzzle right after the deadline at Friday 23:59 UTC in the voice channel of the Zachtronics discord server, so be sure to check that out! You'll need to move the downloaded file to Documents/My Games/Opus Magnum//custom/ and then make a new puzzle. To play the puzzle, head to 2023 weeklies collection at and click on the ongoing event. Players are encouraged to check out the weekly channel in the Zachtronics discord: for puzzle details, announcements, or any other queries about the competition. Players are welcome to submit solutions for either one or both metrics during the week there are no penalties for missing a metric or a week. Tie-breaking metrics will also be included in case of any ties.
